title : Novelty, Creativity / Innovation , Invention
Creativity & Novelty

As i mentioned in the previous post, creativity is an ability exist in everyone, is just the matter of how we use it. Novelty in the other hand is a word that is almost similar to creativity. It is a crucial factor of being creative. In addition, it can also be interpret as a fundamental element to be creative.
Novelty derived form Latin word, novus for "new", is the quality of being new. A new idea is an original, fresh and an unusual notion. Some people might question the meaning of new, "what is a new idea idea exactly?"New idea is an original, fresh and unusual notion. At the beginning, each of a new idea will appears to be one of a kind and special, but when time passes that new idea will be taken by other people and that person will modify it and change it to another NEW idea. So, new ideas is actually ideas derived from existing concept. Hence, Novelty is obtained in the subjective perceptions of individuals.

We can take the inventor of light bulb as an example. All of us know that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, but he is actually not the first person who discovered the method of making a light bulb. The 1st light bulb was built by Humphry Davy (an Englishman) in 1809. Thomas Alva Edison improved the invention and based his improvements on a patent he purchased from inventors Henry Woodward & Matthew Evans who patented their bulb in 1875. Sir Joseph Wilson Swan produced an early electric lightbulb (1860), and in 1880, independently of Thomas Alva Edison, he produced a carbon-filament incandescent electric lamp.

Innovation & Invention
Innovation is a transformation in the thought process for doing something, or the functional application of new discoveries. This process typically involves CREATIVITY,but is not identical to it: it require acting on creative ideas to make some tangible difference in the domain in which the innovation occurs.

Invention can be seen as a new composition, device or process. It is often an exploratory process, with an uncertain outcome. They are either failures or successes.

REFERENCE:

According to a school of thought, innovation is invention plus exploitation. Innovation is about taking a tangible thing and then applying it in new and pioneering ways. We can also say that when an idea for making a new product or a process first occurs, it is innovation, while invention is the primary attempt to bring that idea into practice.

Invention’s concern is a singular product or process, but innovation involves an amalgamation of various products pr processes. For example the basic invention of MP3 player wasn’t new, but the development of iPod which was a mixture of aesthetics, ease of use and graceful ergonomics, was truly innovative.

Innovation is far more about prospecting, miming, refining and adding
value than it is about pure invention.

CLEVER INVENTIONS

One For All, All For One – Wine dispenser for table: a uniform flow of liquid out of the four holes allows to fill simultaneously and uniformly the glasses of all the diners. The Pascal principle: The pressure exerted on a fluid enclosed in a container is transmitted unchanged at any point of the fluid and at the walls of the container that contains it. ~From Italian design collective, Acquacalda

This earphone concept, Y I sound invention, features a zipping action to keep ear bud cords from tangling up when not in use. This ingenious design includes a volume control and brightly colored zipper teeth to help form follow function. When users are finished listening to their sound device, they simply zip up and put it away. Smart design for sure!

Old school meet new school-

TVDRS Tape - Finger Power Tape

lets you fast-forward or rewind a song manually by rotating the spools with your finger, then play by sliding the play button. Outta battery juice? Just rotate the spools; rotating the second hole of the tape charges it with kinetic energy. An LED indicates the power status showing green for fully charged, amber for half-charged and red for nearly dead. Available in 45/60/90 minute varieties, this device also hides a USB plug.

Submarine Tea Infuser

We all brew in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine, we all brew in a..........you get the idea; it's an old school tea infuser in the style of a wacky psychedelic Beatles-esque submarine.

Teabags are OK, in an eighties sort of way, but you can't beat a good old fashioned brew using real leaves.

FIY (Finish It Yourself) junior by David Graas

The “FIY junior” children's chair is a Finish It Yourself product. Finish It Yourself is one step beyond Do It Yourself. The packaging of the chair is an integral part of the design made possible because the material of the product and the packaging are exactly the same. In the cardboard box two parts of the chair are for the most part pre-cut. You simply cut them free from the box and then assemble the chair together with the other parts inside the box. The big advantage is that in this way you use most of the packaging as well, resulting in less waste. But it's also a lot of fun puzzling your chair together. The cut out of the profile of the chair on the box also functions as a graphical image of the chair and is almost a manual in itself; just by looking at it you immediately understand how it should be assembled. Chair and packaging are 100% recyclable.

Not a box by David Graas

This lamp comes as a box with all parts inside (bulb, plug, cable etc. + manual). You cut top and bottom yourself and then install. The cut out of the lamp shape functions as a graphical image of the lamp that could be inside the box, but is not.

Creative Packaging

With the color, look, feel and touch of real fruit skin these creative juice boxes by Naoto Fukasawa not only closely reflect what is being marketed but also provide a more-than-just-visual sense experience – extending beyond normal industrial design parameters.
